About aov windows

An AOV window is an opening window in a stairwell, lobby or corridor fitted with an electric chain or linear actuator that opens it automatically when smoke is detected.

Common in residential stairwells, HMOs, flats, offices and care homes, often on the top floor of a stair.

Local considerations in Holywood, Ards and North Down

In Northern Ireland, smoke ventilation in new and altered buildings is designed under Technical Booklet E of the Building Regulations (Northern Ireland), and once the building is occupied the responsible person has duties under the Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and the Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010 to keep fire safety systems, including aov windows, in good working order.

Around Holywood we often work on smaller blocks, rural businesses, farms and private homes, where power supply and cable runs can be longer, so we check these at survey.

We check the free area, window frame strength, opening angle, cable routes in fire-rated cable and the controller location.

Planned maintenance keeps aov windows safe and reliable and gives you records for insurers and inspections.
