In Scotland, smoke ventilation in new and altered buildings is designed under the Scottish Building Standards Technical Handbooks (Section 2: Fire), and once the building is occupied the responsible person has duties under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 to keep fire safety systems, including smoke dampers, in good working order.

Around Prestonpans we often work on smaller blocks, rural businesses, farms and private homes, where power supply and cable runs can be longer, so we check these at survey.
