About aov windows
An AOV window is an opening window in a stairwell, lobby or corridor fitted with an electric chain or linear actuator that opens it automatically when smoke is detected.
Common in residential stairwells, HMOs, flats, offices and care homes, often on the top floor of a stair.
Local considerations in Preston, Lancashire
In England, smoke ventilation in new and altered buildings is designed under Approved Document B of the Building Regulations (England), and once the building is occupied the responsible person has duties under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 to keep fire safety systems, including aov windows, in good working order.
In a built-up area like Preston, many jobs are in blocks of flats, mixed-use buildings and car parks, so access, parking for our vans and out-of-hours working are planned at survey.
We check the free area, window frame strength, opening angle, cable routes in fire-rated cable and the controller location.
Maintenance of aov windows in Preston
Planned maintenance keeps aov windows safe and reliable and gives you records for insurers and inspections. We service Ventlux and all other makes: we check fixings, wear, power and battery backup, controls and safety devices, adjust and lubricate where needed, test operation end to end and leave a written report with any recommended actions.
